Abstract
General formulae are obtained for the PI (Padmakar-Ivan) index of polyacenes. The PI is a newly proposed molecular-graph-distance-based structural descriptor. By means of this result it was possible, for the first time, to examine relative correlation potential of Wiener (W)-, Szeged (Sz)- first-order connectivity (1c), and PI indices in developing Quantitative Structure-Property Relationships (QSPRs) of polyacenes in that hydrophobicity of polyacenes is used as the correlating property.
