Various complexes Hg(PQ)X2 (PQ = 2-(2`-pyridyl)quinoline, X = Cl-, Br-, I-, N3-, NO2-, NO3-, and SCN-) have been synthesized by direct reaction of HgX2 (X = Cl-, Br-, and I-) with PQ or by the reaction of HgCl2 with either NaN3, NaNO2, NaNO3, or NaSCN followed by the addition of 2-(2`-pyridyl)quinoline solution to the reaction mixture. The new complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, electronic absorption, IR, 1H, and 13C NMR.
