Abstract
Benzyltrimethylammonium fluorochromate (VI), BTMAFC, is
synthesized by reacting benzyltrimethylammonium bromide with an aqueous solution
of CrO3 and HF. This new reagent, (C6H5CH2)(CH3)3N[CrO3F],
is used for almost quantitative conversion of oximes into the parent ketones or
aldehydes. BTMAFC is used under mild and neutral conditions for fast and
selective oxidation of primary, secondary, allylic and benzylic alcohols to
their corresponding carbonyl compounds, in high yields.
Key words: Benzyltrimethylammonium fluorochromate (VI), oksidant, carbonyl compounds, alcohols.
